Start With an Assessment
Our specialist starts with an assessment of the oral and pharyngeal phases of feeding and swallowing to determine if a problem exists. Our specialist will compare your child’s development to typical feeding milestones of children in the same age category as your child.
- They will assess the oral structures and oral motor skills used in consuming different textures, including liquids and solids.
- We will examine your child’s feeding position, behavior, and oral movements to ensure oral eating is a safe activity for your child.
- If your infant appears to struggle with bottle or breastfeeding, our infant feeding specialist can help support suck-swallow-breathe coordination in your baby as they learn to feed during our infant feeding therapy sessions.
If we identify any disorders, we will develop a coordinated care plan for your child to treat the area(s) of concern. It may include the following.
