What Does It Mean to Be Neurodivergent?
Neurodivergent is not a medical term, but rather a layman’s term used to describe people whose brain differences affect how their brain works. A neurodivergent brain exhibits thought patterns, behaviors, or learning styles that fall outside of what is considered normal or neurotypical of humans. Some differences are considered disabilities while others are seen as strengths. (Rudy, 2024). At RISE Pediatric Therapies (RPT) we offer several types of therapies to help children who have a “neurodivergent diagnosis.” Contact us at (407) 904-1600 for more information. Located in West Orange County, we serve Orlando, FL, and the surrounding areas.
Neurodivergent Examples
Neurodivergent conditions or diagnoses are considered to be developmental disorders rather than mental illnesses or intellectual disabilities. Some are included here:
- Autism
- Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD)
- Tourette’s syndrome
- Various learning disabilities such as dyslexia and dyscalculia (Rudy, 2024)

Neurodiverse children do not all share the same symptoms, as several diagnoses all fall within the category of neurodiversity. Testing can reveal a diagnosis (or lack thereof) and set us on the correct path for therapy. At RISE Pediatric Therapies we offer several types of therapy and will recommend the best options for your child and their particular challenges.
- Applied Behavioral Analysis
- Parent Training & Support
- Occupational Therapy
- Speech & Language Therapy
- Psychological Evaluation
Intervention can improve outcomes for children in many areas of their lives including motor skills, academics, social-emotional development, and much more. Neurodiverse individuals are often gifted in certain areas and can be high achievers.
